Happy (belated) New Year! 2004 has started off quickly for Sonic Spirits; despite the freezing weather in NYC, audiophiles appear to be out in force looking for new toys to buy! This will be a short newsletter with no “Feature” article; I had intended to write something about our visit to the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES2004), but with all the coverage of the show out there on the Web, what I had to say about the show seemed repetitive.
CES2004 took place on January 8-11. This year’s show had the highest attendance in quite some time. The high end audio section was expanded into two hotels, the Alexis Park and St. Tropez. In addition, T.H.E. Show also had expanded exhibit rooms at the San Remo Hotel. Dazzling sound and esoteric-looking gear abounded!

Blue Circle Audio

-Blue Circle has just introduced two new phono stages which made their debut at CES; the BC27 and BC27pi. Both are solid state with a unique physical design for facilitating placement on a turntable rack. The BC27 is upgradeable to the BC27pi. More details can be found here:

-Focus Audio debuted its new reference speaker, the Master II, at CES. This 6-driver tower stands over 6ft tall and features dual Scanspeak Revelator 9900 tweeters, double 5" mid-range and double 11" woofers in Appolitos design. The Master II received "Showstopper" recognition from Soundstage.com:

-The February ’04 issue of Stereophile contains a review of Monster Cable’s top of the line Sigma Retro Gold speaker cables and interconnects. In the review, the writer makes some interesting comments/comparisons to various cables, including the Audience Au24 speaker cables and interconnects.
